Allendale Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center announced it launched a Stroke Recovery program under the direction of Dr. Kavneet Kaur. The subacute care offering at the Allendale skilled nursing facility is among the first of its kind in Bergen County.
Allendale’s Stroke Recovery services are tailored to meet the specific needs and goals of an individual, dependent on how they have been impacted by a stroke. The program aims to help restore physical function and the ability to perform daily activities, gain strength and endurance, improve balance and mobility, manage pain and spasticity, overcome speech and communication deficits and develop new cognitive strategies.
Kaur is board certified in neurology and vascular neurology. Highly respected as a visionary physician leader, she has held numerous senior leadership roles within Garnet Health System, including serving as medical director and chair of Neurology, and is a sought-after speaker and author. Kaur also maintains a private practice in New Jersey.
“This specialized program for high acuity stroke recovery patients responds to a direct ask from Allendale’s health system partners,” Christina Albano, regional director of market development at Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the center, said. “Allendale is fortunate to have a neurologist of Dr. Kaur’s caliber leading this new initiative with the support of its talented team of specialists. They aim to provide for the best possible outcome for each stroke survivor in their care.”
Allendale’s multidisciplinary services include physical, occupational and speech therapies. The introduction of Allendale’s Stroke Recovery Program coincides with the center’s ongoing, multi-million-dollar renovation which include an expanded therapy gym with state-of-the-art equipment to support the unique needs of stroke survivors.
Allendale designed its Stroke Recovery program to meet the rigorous science-based requirements of the American Heart Association’s new Skilled Nursing Facility Stroke Rehabilitation Certification. It is one of the first subacute facilities in the region actively pursuing this recently introduced certification by the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health.
Located at 85 Harreton Road in Allendale, the 299-bed skilled nursing facility provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care. It shares a campus with Allendale Senior Living, an assisted living community.
