Bardega Supper Club to anchor historic Kislak Building in Downtown Newark

The transformation of Newark’s Broad Street corridor continues to gain momentum as CBRE announces a long-term lease for Bardega Supper Club at 579 Broad Street. The new restaurant and lounge, taking over 4,203 square feet of prime ground-floor retail space, is slated to open its doors in the summer of 2026.

The lease was finalized on behalf of 579 Broad Street Urban Renewal, LLC, the owners of the iconic five-story, 40,000-square-foot property known historically as the Kislak Building. Marta Person Villa, senior vice president at CBRE, represented the landlord, while Tara Robertson of BRX Realty represented the tenant in the transaction.

Originally constructed in 1900, 579 Broad Street has been a cornerstone of Newark’s architecture for over a century. Recently converted into a mixed-use development, the building now features 41 high-end residential units perched above 5,700 square feet of retail. Bardega Supper Club will occupy nearly 75% of that commercial footprint, bringing a new dining destination to a site that was once a hub of regional real estate offices.

“The new Bardega Supper Club is the latest addition to the thriving entertainment and retail scene in downtown Newark,” Person Villa said. “The area is a destination for more than 60,000 students, faculty, and staff, and is less than a 20-minute train ride to New York Penn Station.”

The selection of 579 Broad Street places the new supper club at the signalized intersection of Broad Street and Central Avenue—the city’s largest transit-oriented business hub. The location is strategically positioned among Newark’s most influential institutional anchors and corporate giants.

Key Local Neighbors Include:

  • Arts & Culture: New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), Newark Art Museum.

  • Higher Education: Rutgers University, NJIT, Seton Hall Law, Essex County College.

  • Corporate Giants: Prudential, Audible, Panasonic, and PSE&G.

  • Retail & Dining: Whole Foods, Barnes & Noble, Ani Ramen, and Barcade.

The arrival of Bardega Supper Club reflects a broader trend in New Jersey’s urban centers: the “supper club” model that combines high-end dining with late-night lounge entertainment. As Newark continues to grow its resident population—driven by conversions like the Kislak Building and the nearby Hahne & Co. development—there is a surging demand for venues that offer an all-evening experience.

For residents of the 41 luxury apartments upstairs, the club offers an “elevator-to-table” amenity that is increasingly common in New York City and is now becoming a staple of Newark’s “Hiptown” revitalization.
