Every Stop Tells a Story: NJ Transit launches ‘Jersey Journeys’ initiative to promote country’s 250th birthday

While many are working to find ways to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday, NJ Transit has a different goal: Being able to get you there.

On Tuesday, NJ Transit announced some of the ways it will do so with its NJ TRANSIT’s Jersey Journeys campaign, launching the campaign at Liberty Hall at Kean University.

“Jersey Journeys: Every Stop Tells a Story” includes an interactive map showcasing more than 150 historic sites and landmarks across the Garden State, easily accessible by NJ TRANSIT bus, rail or light rail. From Revolutionary War battlefields and colonial homes to cultural museums and monuments, the Jersey Journeys map makes it easy to explore New Jersey’s contributions to American history, NJ Transit officials said.

“This campaign highlights how rich a history New Jersey has that is only one rail, bus or light rail trip away,” NJ TRANSIT CEO Kris Kolluri said. “We’re proud to celebrate America’s upcoming 250th birthday by offering customers a way to experience New Jersey’s heritage through public transportation.”

The project includes an interactive map that allows users to easily find and explore historic sites scattered across the state of New Jersey, including monuments, battlefields, architecture, and other historic locations. The map provides route details on the fastest way to access these sites.

Kean President Lamont Repollet said it will bring history to life.

“The Jersey Journeys campaign is a fantastic opportunity to explore some of the oldest and most significant historical landmarks in our nation, right here in New Jersey,” he said. “Kean is proud to be part of an initiative that connects communities to their past and also inspires future generations to learn, explore and dream big.”

Clara Barton Schoolhouse is one of the many Jersey Journeys along NJ Transit’s rail line.

State Senators Joe Cryan and Patrick Diegnan agreed.

“I’m honored to support the ‘Jersey Journeys: Every Stop Tells a Story,’ initiative – an innovative way for New Jerseyans and visitors alike to explore our rich heritage and better understand the role this state has played in shaping the nation,” Cryan said. “By raising awareness that historic sites are accessible via public transit, NJ TRANSIT is opening doors to discovery, strengthening civic pride and advancing education right in our own backyard.”

Diegnan, the chair of Senate Transportation Committee, said the event will help put New Jersey on the global map.

“This is a dynamic way of highlighting the rich history New Jersey has played in shaping our nation,” he said. “People from all over the world will be able to experience iconic landmarks easily within reach of the NJ TRANSIT system.”

The project supports the state’s broader efforts to honor America’s 250th anniversary while promoting local tourism, education, and civic pride.

Jersey Journeys adds to NJ TRANSIT’s growing set of resources to help residents and visitors alike take advantage of public transportation to enjoy everything New Jersey has to offer. NJ TRANSIT’s “Transit to Trails” (www.njtransit.com/trails) provides similar travel planning information for over 40 parks in 21 New Jersey counties, while “Pizza & Pints” lets people plan trips to over 165 world-class pizzerias, breweries, wineries, and distilleries in the state.
