Lowenstein Sandler appoints Wishnia as managing partner; Gary Wingens to remain chair

Lowenstein Sandler LLP on Friday announced a significant evolution in its leadership structure, electing Jonathan Wishnia as the firm’s next managing partner.

Wishnia, a member of the firm’s executive board and the lead architect behind the “Vision 2030” strategic plan, succeeds Gary Wingens. Wingens has held the dual role of chair and managing partner since 2008 and will continue to serve as the firm’s chair.

The transition marks a shift toward a bifurcated leadership model designed to enhance operational execution. As managing partner, Wishnia will oversee day-to-day operations and talent strategy while continuing to lead the firm’s prestigious Mortgage & Structured Finance practice.

“Jon is a trusted colleague and an exceptional leader whose judgment, integrity, and strategic insight have shaped Lowenstein’s evolution,” Wingens said. “I look forward to partnering closely with him as he steps into the Managing Partner role.”

To support this new phase, Wishnia will head a newly formed Management Committee focused on the continued implementation of firmwide strategic initiatives.

Under Wingens’ 18-year tenure, Lowenstein Sandler underwent a period of massive growth and modernization, including:

  • Financial growth: Tripled firm revenues and quadrupled profits.

  • National expansion: Strengthened market-leading practices in private equity, venture capital, and bankruptcy.

  • Innovation: Accelerated investment in AI-enabled legal services.

  • Pro bono commitment: Founded the Lowenstein Center for the Public Interest, leading the firm to a top 25 national ranking for pro bono work by The American Lawyer.

Wishnia, recently recognized as a 2025 Pro Bono Innovator by Bloomberg Law, expressed his commitment to maintaining the firm’s unique culture while driving its future strategy.

“I am honored by the confidence my partners have placed in me,” Wishnia stated. “I am grateful for Gary’s leadership… and I look forward to working with our leadership team as we execute on Lowenstein’s Vision 2030.”

As Chair, Wingens will pivot his focus toward high-level client relationships, external representation, and the advancement of the firm’s innovation priorities.
