NJ Film Commission receives nomination for top locations award

The New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission (NJMPTVC) was nominated for Outstanding Film Commission by the Locations Managers Guild International (LMGI) for its work on the film A Complete Unknown. The nomination, announced Monday by the NJMPTVC, which is part of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), recognizes the commission’s efforts in attracting and supporting film productions in the state.

Tim Sullivan, CEO of the NJEDA, emphasized Governor Murphy’s role in fostering the film industry in New Jersey, noting its significant contribution to economic growth and job creation.

“Under Governor Murphy’s leadership, the film industry has become a powerful driver of economic growth in New Jersey, creating good-paying jobs and supporting small businesses across the state,” Sullivan said. “The commission’s hospitality and experience, paired with the State’s incentive program, local talent pool, and diverse locations has made New Jersey a premier destination for major, Oscar-caliber film productions—while also continuing to be a top choice for people to live, work, and raise a family.”

A Complete Unknown, filmed extensively across 17 New Jersey municipalities including Hoboken, Jersey City, Paterson, and Cape May, also received an LMGI nomination for Outstanding Locations in a Period Feature Film. Notably, the film, which saw New Jersey locations stand in for cities like New York City and Washington D.C., has also garnered eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. Last year, Oppenheimer, with scenes filmed in Princeton, won the LMGI Award for Best Motion Picture.

Jon Crowley, executive director of the NJMPTVC, highlighted New Jersey’s versatility in providing a wide range of looks for filmmakers, from urban backdrops to coastal towns. He stated that the LMGI nomination “solidifies that New Jersey values not only the important role of location scouts, but our variety of different looks has caught the attention of filmmakers and positions us to continue attracting top-tier productions for years to come.”

The LMGI Award Ceremony will take place on Aug. 23rd in Santa Monica, California.
