The Newark Regional Business Partnership (NRBP) and its affiliate, the Renaissance Newark Foundation (RNF), have teamed up with local content and data company pocstock to launch a creative internship program for five students this summer. The initiative, which was made possible through the City of Newark’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), provided students with hands-on experience in the creative industry.
Over the course of the program, interns gained practical skills in photography, videography, and content production both at pocstock’s studios and in the community. They learned every stage of the creative process, from concept development to camera operation and preparing content for use as AI data.
Ferlanda Fox Nixon, president and CEO of the NRBP, emphasized the program’s dual mission of strengthening Newark’s economy and preparing the next generation for success. “By connecting our members with opportunities to support young people, we are strengthening Newark’s economic competitiveness today while preparing the next generation for success tomorrow,” she said.
The program was made possible with support from Reworld™, an NRBP member that donated funds to the RNF to purchase professional production equipment for the interns.
Derrick Larane, COO of pocstock, highlighted the importance of internships in career development. “Internships work and they matter,” he stated, noting that the program reflects pocstock’s commitment to collaboration and making a real impact in the Newark business community.
The students themselves shared positive feedback, with Emily Ramos noting that the hands-on nature of the internship was her favorite part. Solomon Simmons called it his first internship and said he wants to do it again next year, highlighting how it helped him develop new skills while getting paid. The program not only built technical skills but also fostered creative confidence and created lasting memories for all involved.
