About that belief that all holiday shopping is now done from your couch and in your
pajamas while scrolling on social media? The AT&T 2025 Holiday Shopping Survey
shows that may not be the case.
According to the survey, more people (72%) get their gift ideas from in-person shopping
than social media (just 28%). And most people (65%) are more likely to call a small
business when they have questions, compared to 35% who say they are more likely to
call a large retailer.
We’ll pause to give small business owners a chance to roll their eyes. But, to be sure, the
results are eye-opening. Starting with this stat:
Most U.S. consumers (77%) said they would complete all of their holiday shopping at
small businesses if they could. And 77% of people said they would be more likely to buy
from small businesses over large retailers if pricing is the same.
It appears the spirit of the season is strong: 67% of people surveyed said they shop at
small businesses to support their local economy, an 8% year-over-year increase from
2024 (59%).
All of this is great for small businesses. Of course, surveys don’t contribute to the
bottom line.
Consumers will have a month to prove this is true.
