Middlesex County officials and community partners gathered on April 23, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 293 Townsend St. in New Brunswick, marking the official opening of a new six-unit housing complex dedicated to residents transitioning out of homelessness.
The project is the latest milestone in a coordinated effort between the County and Coming Home of Middlesex County to provide safe, stable, and permanent housing for the region’s most vulnerable populations.
The newly constructed building was made possible through the Middlesex County Housing First Fund. This initiative prioritizes providing permanent, affordable housing as a foundational step, allowing residents to pursue independence and long-term success with the security of a roof over their heads.
The Middlesex County Housing Continuum Care Committee oversees these efforts, working to ensure that the transition from homelessness to stability is met with dignity and comprehensive support services.
“This project reflects the County’s continued commitment to advancing a comprehensive strategy centered on stability, dignity, and long-term success for residents in need,” officials said during the event.
Located in the heart of New Brunswick, the Townsend Street complex adds critical capacity to the County’s housing inventory. As one of the most diverse and dynamic regions in the country, Middlesex County continues to balance its growth in sectors like life sciences and education with a robust social safety net.
