In another example of industry working with higher ed — something that should be the rule not the exception — Rowan University and accounting firm WilkinGuttenplan, recently announced a partnership that will support students in a CPA apprenticeship program.
The program was created for post-baccalaureate students seeking their CPA after completing a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field from an accredited institution.
Simply put, the collaboration will help provide aspiring accountants with a direct pathway to CPA licensure through hands-on experience and academic excellence.
Offered through Rowan’s Roher College of Business, the program aims to provide students a cost-effective way to complete the 150-credit requirement for CPA licensure which they’ll complete while gaining real-world experience at East Brunswick-based WilkinGuttenplan.
Apprentices will receive mentorship, financial support and on-the-job training to prepare them for careers in accounting, the two organizations said.
WilkinGuttenplan Managing Shareholder Dan Fiorentino described it this way.
“Our partnership with Rowan University reflects our commitment to developing future accounting professionals,” he said. “By combining academic rigor with practical experience, we are equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the industry.”
Roher College of Business Dean Matthew Sarkees said the school was thrilled to be able to offer the innovative path.
“Rowan University is proud to be at the forefront of innovation in accounting education through this partnership with WilkinGuttenplan,” he said. “The CPA Apprenticeship Program offers our students a unique opportunity to gain the practical experience they need to excel in the profession, while fulfilling the academic requirements for CPA licensure.
“This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to preparing the next generation of accounting leaders with the skills, experience and support they need to succeed in today’s competitive job market.”
