The Center for Discovery, Innovation and Development (CDID) at Children’s Specialized Hospital, a pillar of the RWJBarnabas Health network, announced an expansion of its partnership with BILLY Footwear with the debut of the BILLY Limitless 253.

The BILLY Limitless 253 is engineered to support independence for a diverse range of users, including those living with autism, diabetes, or low muscle tone. By focusing on “universal design,” the shoe offers high-performance functionality without the clinical look often associated with adaptive apparel.
“Footwear can be a critical yet often overlooked barrier to mobility and independence,” Matthew McDonald III, president and CEO of Children’s Specialized Hospital said. “Through innovative partnerships like this, we are developing solutions that empower individuals to live fuller, more independent lives.”
The Limitless 253 incorporates several specialized features designed by the CDID and BILLY Footwear teams:
- Signature Zipper Technology: Features the BILLY Straight Medial Zipper for effortless “donning and doffing,” complemented by an extra-wide loop pull for users with limited hand dexterity.
- Stability & Comfort: Equipped with Clove outsoles for maximum shock absorption and a dense heel stabilizer to provide a “cloud-like” walking experience.
- Sensory-Friendly Interior: A breathable mesh upper and a relatively seam-free interior minimize irritation for those with sensory sensitivities.
- Customizable Depth: Includes removable multi-density insoles and two additional “spacer” insoles to accommodate custom orthotics or varying foot volumes.
The partnership continues a successful collaboration that began in 2025. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of the BILLY Limitless 253 directly benefits Children’s Specialized Hospital, supporting vital programs for children facing unique healthcare challenges throughout New Jersey.
By combining the medical expertise of RWJBarnabas Health with BILLY Footwear’s “Fashion for All” philosophy, the Limitless 253 represents a significant step forward in the inclusive design movement.
