RWJBarnabas Health injects $854K into Monmouth Family Health Center

Tucked away in the heart of Long Branch, the Monmouth Family Health Center (MFHC) operates as a vital lifeline for families seeking everything from prenatal checkups to podiatry and behavioral health services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), its mission has always been clear: deliver compassionate, comprehensive care to historically underserved and vulnerable populations.

Now, that mission is getting a major, modern upgrade.

RWJBarnabas Health has announced an $854,000 investment aimed at transforming the facility’s internal technology, medical equipment, and patient environment. Funded through state appropriations under the system’s Our Healthy Communities initiative, the influx of capital is designed to elevate the clinical experience for both the providers on the front lines and the patients walking through the door.

For community health centers, matching the rapid pace of technological advancement in health care can be a constant hurdle. This new funding bypasses that obstacle, allowing MFHC to replace critical, everyday tools that providers rely on to diagnose and treat patients.

According to leadership, the $854,000 will be used to purchase:

  • Updated exam tables and vital sign monitors.
  • New, advanced ultrasound machines.
  • Upgraded computer equipment to support clinical workflows.
  • General facility maintenance, including fresh paint and modern lighting to create a more welcoming, comfortable healing environment.

“Ensuring historically vulnerable communities have access to world-class health care that uses the latest and best technologies in a welcoming and comfortable space is central to our mission,” Mark Manigan, president and chief executive officer of RWJBarnabas Health said. “Monmouth Family Health Center is a vital partner in this mission, and this investment shows it will continue to be well into our shared future.”

The investment is part of a broader, statewide effort by RWJBarnabas Health to address the root causes of health disparities. Through the Our Healthy Communities initiative, the health system has partnered with more than a dozen FQHCs across New Jersey, famously helping them transition to Epic electronic health records software to seamlessly integrate and streamline patient care.

The impact of the funding has drawn strong praise from local and federal lawmakers who recognize the center’s footprint in the community.

“Many families in Long Branch rely on Monmouth Family Health Center for their health services,” Congressman Frank Pallone said. “This investment from RWJBarnabas Health will benefit the people of Monmouth County and ensure patients continue to get the top-notch care they deserve.”

State Senator Vin Gopal echoed the sentiment, calling the announcement “incredibly exciting” for local residents. “With the latest technologies and medical equipment, Monmouth Family Health Center will be able to care for patients in need and help us keep New Jerseyans safe and healthy.”

While the $854,000 directly targets the Long Branch facility, it represents just one piece of a massive $151 million reinvestment by RWJBarnabas Health into community health initiatives statewide. Backed by the State of New Jersey, the Our Healthy Communities umbrella has funded everything from new “Food Farmacies” to combat food insecurity, to placing professional Brigaid chefs in Newark school cafeterias, and launching a Pediatric Mobile Health Clinic in Essex County.

For Paul McCloud, CEO of Monmouth Family Health Center, the partnership is less about the balance sheet and more about the people.

“This investment will help us make transformational upgrades to our center, benefiting our patients and our providers alike,” McCloud said. “Together, we can continue delivering quality, comprehensive care to everyone in our community.”
