First on BINJE

Herbold selected as next CEO of Choose New Jersey

Veteran leader brings public‑ and private‑sector experience to state’s lead business attraction group

Amy Herbold, a highly regarded leader with deep experience in both government and the private sector, has been selected as the next CEO of Choose New Jersey, its board of directors announced today, BINJE has learned.

Herbold will begin in the role on April 16.

She will be tasked with guiding the organization into its next chapter of growth and global engagement — the specific priorities of which are still being determined.

Longtime Choose New Jersey Chair Ralph LaRossa, who also serves as chair and CEO of PSEG, applauded the decision.

“With Amy at the helm, we are confident that Choose New Jersey will continue to attract impactful investments and jobs that move New Jersey’s economy forward,” he said.

“With experience in both the public and private sectors, she is well positioned to attract and retain businesses in New Jersey. The board of directors looks forward to partnering with her to advance Gov. Sherrill’s economic priorities.”

Gov. Mikie Sherrill also praised Herbold.

“Amy has a proven track record of advancing the growth of one of our state’s premier economic and tourism hubs,” she said. “I am confident that her leadership will drive meaningful and substantial investments in New Jersey. I look forward to working with Choose New Jersey to attract investment, strengthen key industries and create jobs across the state.”

Herbold said she was humbled by her selection.

“I’m honored to lead Choose New Jersey at such a pivotal moment and grateful to the Board of Directors for their confidence in me,” she said. “New Jersey has all the assets to compete — and win — on a global stage: talent, location, infrastructure and innovation.

“I look forward to working with Gov. Mikie Sherrill and our partners across business and government to drive investment, create jobs and tell New Jersey’s story to the world, benefiting our local communities statewide.”

Herbold has enormous experience driving economic development projects within the region, contributing to job creation and advancing New Jersey’s position as a year-round global destination. She currently serves as SVP of corporate and regulatory affairs for the Triple Five Group, where she supports a range of high-profile development initiatives.

Herbold has previously served at the highest levels of state government, working as deputy executive director of NJ Transit and senior counsel for the Governor’s Authorities Unit. She also served on the Restart and Recovery Council for Tourism and Entertainment and is a commissioner for the Jersey City Housing Authority.

Herbold earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and is a graduate of Trinity University.

Choose New Jersey is the state’s leading nonprofit business attraction organization, working to harness the collective power of New Jersey’s business, government, labor and academic sectors to expand the state’s economy.

The organization has a proven track record of attracting international companies — often following international trade missions.

Choose New Jersey recently celebrated its 15th anniversary.

Herbold is the fifth CEO of Choose New Jersey, succeeding Wes Mathews, who led the organization from 2022 to 2025 before stepping away in December to take a role at PSEG.

Tracye McDaniel was the founding CEO of Choose New Jersey, followed by Michele Brown, Jose Lozano and Mathews.

Jen Lenhardt has served as interim CEO on multiple occasions, including following the departures of Mathews and Lozano. She was recently honored at the BINJE’s Best: Top Women in Business event.
