A major new investment in the future of Passaic’s youth was announced Wednesday as the Nicholas Martini Foundation revealed a $500,000 scholarship funding agreement dedicated to supporting college-bound graduates of Passaic High School.
The announcement was made during the 2026 Passaic High School Scholarship Day ceremonies by the Hon. William J. Martini, who serves as the President and Trustee of the Nicholas Martini Foundation. The initiative, established in partnership with the Passaic Optimist Friend of Youth Foundation, is expected to provide critical financial aid to local students for the next 10 to 15 years.
“This initiative is designed to provide long-term educational support for future generations of Passaic High School students,” Judge Martini said, who also presented award letters to this year’s scholarship recipients during the event. “We are honored to continue that legacy by offering financial aid to students preparing for the next stage of their academic journeys.”
The distribution of the funds will be overseen by Jerome F. Gallagher, Esq., a Trustee of the Passaic Optimist Foundation and a member of the law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A.
The scholarship program is designed to support students throughout their undergraduate careers. Recipients of the Nicholas Martini Foundation scholarship will be eligible to apply for renewal awards each year they are in college. Decisions regarding these renewals will be based on a comprehensive review of:
- Financial need
- Academic performance
- Extracurricular involvement
- Community service
- The total applicant pool
This year, the commitment to Passaic students is even more immediate: the Passaic Optimist Foundation is set to award a total of $128,000 in scholarships, bolstered by a $60,000 donation specifically from the Nicholas Martini Foundation.
The Nicholas Martini Foundation, established in 1986 by former Passaic Mayor Nicholas Martini, remains dedicated to advancing educational access for New Jersey students. Under the leadership of Judge William J. Martini since 1991, the organization continues to focus on philanthropic initiatives that empower local youth.
The Passaic Optimist Friend of Youth Foundation serves as the charitable arm of the Passaic Optimist Club, a nonprofit focused on supporting students through scholarships, mentorship, and the promotion of personal achievement.
