Students 2 Science opens Apollo Technology Center in Whippany, set to serve over 100K students annually

Students 2 Science (S2S), a Whippany-based STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) nonprofit, has officially opened the Apollo Technology Center at One Apollo Drive in Whippany. The grand opening celebration on Oct. 7, was attended by industry leaders, foundations, and community partners, with the first students welcomed just days later for a full day of hands-on STEM learning.

The new facility is designed to significantly expand access to cutting-edge science and technology education across the state, providing students with hands-on experience using the kind of state-of-the-art laboratory instrumentation found in professional settings.

“This venture was a community effort,” said Paul Winslow, president and co-founder of Students 2 Science. “The S2S community of champions came together… We look forward to serving over 100,000 students annually.”

Expanded programs and partnerships

The Apollo Technology Center will host several expanded and new programs:

  • ISAAC Program: The Center features dedicated lab space for the new elementary school program (Improving Student Affinity and Aptitude for Careers in STEM – Grades 3-5), alongside existing programs for middle and high school students.
  • Virtual Lab (V – Lab): A state-of-the-art production studio will support the expanded Virtual Lab Program for Grades 3 through 12.
  • Educator Professional Development: A new program will be launched to upskill current K-12 teachers and provide foundational lab training for new educators.
  • STEM Summer Camp: A new camp will debut in the Summer of 2026.

The project was brought to fruition through collaboration and generous support from prominent STEM corporations and community partners:

  • Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsored the ISAAC Laboratories, which feature eight distinct student learning labs.
  • The PSEG Foundation sponsored the exploration and creation of new curriculum, including the expansion of programs for younger students.
  • The Sanofi Workforce Training & Development Lab, sponsored by Sanofi, will offer students and community members real-world application experiences to help shape the future of STEM industries.

Karnel Walker, board chair of the S2S Board of Trustees, emphasized the long-term impact of the center. “The Apollo Technology Center is more than a building—it’s a promise of STEM opportunity made possible by our partners and community. As we welcome the first students, we are turning possibility into practice with real labs, real mentors, and clear pathways to careers that will power New Jersey’s future workforce.”
