AECOM secures five-year master agreement to power New Jersey Turnpike Authority infrastructure

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) announced it selected global infrastructure leader AECOM to provide general consulting engineering services under a new five-year master services agreement. The partnership will oversee a massive scope of work, including long-term planning, system maintenance, and critical operations for the state’s most vital highway networks.

The agreement covers both the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway, supporting the NJTA’s Long-Range Plan and Strategic Plan at a time when the state is focused on enhancing climate resiliency and regional mobility.

The selection deepens a relationship that spans over 75 years. AECOM has previously led some of the NJTA’s most daunting engineering feats, including the Interchange 6 to 9 Widening Program, a project that significantly eased congestion through Central Jersey.

“We understand how critical resilient, high-performing infrastructure is to New Jersey’s economic vitality,” Samuel Donelson, chief executive of AECOM’s U.S. East region said. “Our teams are proud to help deliver infrastructure that enhances mobility, strengthens communities, and supports long-term economic growth.”

Under the new contract, AECOM will deploy its proprietary Program Controls Engine and a suite of tailored digital applications. These tools are designed to provide the NJTA with real-time transparency into project performance and budget efficiency.

The firm will also provide technical expertise for the state’s evolving tolling systems. This includes:

  • Electronic Tolling Systems: Improving flow and reducing emissions at toll points.
  • Customer Service Center Systems: Enhancing the digital experience for millions of E-ZPass users.
  • Strategic Planning: Assisting in the rollout of the Authority’s multi-billion-dollar capital improvement programs.

The NJTA operates some of the most heavily trafficked roads in the United States, serving as a backbone for East Coast commerce. By securing AECOM’s integrated planning and engineering expertise, the Authority aims to ensure these arteries remain reliable for the millions of commuters and freight carriers that depend on them daily.

“Our selection reflects the strength of our global Transportation business,” Russell Jackson, interim chief executive of AECOM’s global Transportation business said. “We are well-positioned to help the Authority improve system performance, enhance reliability, and deliver a better travel experience.”
