Schneider named interim CEO at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold

Schwartz, while retaining role as head of Overlook, will add interim president role at Chilton, where Schneider previously served

Maureen Schneider, a highly regarded executive with more than a decade of service at Atlantic Health, has been named the interim CEO of Atlantic Health CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, the system announced.

Schneider, who was serving as the president of Atlantic Health Chilton Medical Center in Pompton Plains, succeeds Tom Scott, who led the hospital for more than a decade, steering it through the merger with Atlantic Health in January of 2022.

Stephanie Schwartz, the President of Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center, will assume additional responsibility as interim President at Chilton, a role she had until taking over Overlook in 2021.

Atlantic Health CEO Saad Ehtisham applauded the announcement.

“Maureen Schneider brings to Atlantic Health CentraState not only the passion and vision she has exemplified since joining Atlantic Health but valued institutional knowledge about this distinctive community hospital,” he said. “Similarly, Stephanie Schwartz, who previously served as president of Atlantic Health Chilton Medical Center is experiencing a homecoming as she deftly plays double duty.

“Their commitment to a seamless leadership transition that prioritizes patient care and the well-being and engagement of our team members deserves high praise.”

Her leadership of nursing teams has been instrumental in many of Atlantic Health Chilton Medical Center’s achievements and accolades. During the height of the pandemic in 2020, she led Atlantic Health Chilton Medical Center to achieve Magnet Accreditation Recognition for Nursing Excellence, the third health care organization to achieve this award under her leadership.

Schneider has served as a member of CentraState Healthcare System’s Board of Trustees since 2022.

Schneider received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Hunter College-Bellevue School of Nursing, an MBA from Monmouth University, and a doctorate from Seton Hall University. She is certified in Advanced Nursing Administration, Quality Healthcare, is a Fellow in the College of Healthcare Executives and is a Johnson and Johnson Executive Wharton Fellow. Schwartz was named president of Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center in 2021, following a successful tenure as president at Atlantic Health Chilton Medical Center that saw numerous achievements and enhancements in care.

Schwartz graduated Summa Cum Laude from The University of Maryland. She earned her Master of Science, health services administration degree from George Washington University.

Before coming to Atlantic Health, she served in administrative and leadership roles at Southern Ocean County Hospital in Manahawkin and Community Medical Center in Toms River. Prior to coming to New Jersey, she also served in leadership roles at hospitals in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
