Montville-based Marotta Controls, a leading aerospace and defense systems provider, on Wednesday announced the promotion of Brian Ippolitto to vice president, Space Systems.
A 16-year veteran of the company, Ippolitto will now assume full operational responsibility for Marotta’s Space business unit, overseeing engineering, program management, business development, quality, and assembly and test functions.
Ippolitto’s promotion follows a versatile career path within Marotta Controls, where he has led virtually every major function within the division since joining the company in 2010. He most recently served as senior director of operations, a role he assumed in 2023 that provided him with end-to-end visibility into the division’s manufacturing and delivery pipelines.
Beyond his operational roles, Ippolitto is known internally as the founder of “Valve Camp,” a hands-on training program designed to ground new employees in the engineering mechanics of solenoid valves—the core technology driving Marotta’s business.
“Brian has seen tremendous success in his tenure here—he’s overseen almost every aspect of the Space business unit and has a real 360-degree view of the entire organization,” Patrick Marotta, president & CEO of Marotta Controls, said. “His combination of engineering depth, customer knowledge, and operational experience puts him in a strong position to lead the division through what is going to be a very exciting period of growth.”
As vice president, Ippolitto will steer the division through an ambitious growth phase focused on three key areas:
- Sustaining Quality at Scale: Maintaining the strict process discipline and engineering rigor that have underpinned the division’s consistent year-over-year growth.
- Scaling Delta-V: Transitioning Marotta’s new in-space propulsion product family into steady, high-volume production. The strategy will leverage operational insights from the company’s highly successful CoRe® program, which currently ships more than 25,000 valves annually.
- Broadening the Portfolio: Collaborating across Marotta’s adjacent business units to expand the Space division’s capabilities into advanced power and electronics systems.
Marotta Controls has a legacy in the U.S. space program spanning more than 60 years, with components featured on historic and modern initiatives including the Saturn rocket, the Lunar Module, the International Space Station, and NASA’s Space Launch System and Artemis programs. The company also holds the unique distinction of being the only small business to win the NASA George M. Low Award for Quality and Excellence twice.
“For more than a decade and a half, I’ve watched this business go from a handful of space jobs to one that ships tens of thousands of parts a year to some of the most demanding programs in the world,” Ippolitto said. “The next step is building on that momentum—steering Delta-V to where CoRe is today, expanding into new markets, and getting the most out of this team’s capabilities.”
